Jim Simpson first started Simpson Motorsports in 1983 off of Prentiss Street in Downtown Iowa City, he later moved the shop to Gilbert Court in 1985. Then in 2001, Simpson Motorsports moved to its current location here on 3577 Perch Drive SE, Iowa City, IA.
Jim Simpson first started his career as a certified mechanic in 1973 working for a BMW dealership. He later moved to North Carolina in 1977 and worked for a race team known as Korman Autoworks where he worked as a crew chief and mechanic. After gaining experience in the racing industry Jim moved back to Iowa City in 1980.
Jim has an impressive list of BMWs he has owned, with over 12 different types of BMWs from 1600s to M5s. Jim's racing background is just as impressive as his BMW ownership, he has been racing cars and go karts since 1973 and even raced Moto Cross for 18 years.
Jim has won several regional titles in SKUSA Karting events and has raced cars in the IMSA class as well as SCCA. Jim Simpson has also written an editorial in ImportCar Magazine and has given many seminars on BMW maintenance and mechanic work. In 1988, Simpson Motorsport became a Bosch Authorized Service Center, the first in the state of Iowa. Jim has upheld his Bosch Authorization and is a Bosch Authorized Master Tech.
